National AG Senior Adult Conference
The National Senior Adult Ministries of the Assemblies of God hosted their very first Senior Adult Conference this past August. Seniors adults from all over the United States gathered in Branson, Missouri August 29-31. In May earlier this year, Marlene was asked by the Director of Senior Adult Ministries to come to the conference to teach workshops on widows ministry in church. Being the Assemblies of God’s first missionary to widows, Marlene was the perfect person to bring the heart of James 1:27 to this conference.
There were two sessions Marlene was asked to teach along with an open forum for an involved Q & A about widows ministry. The forum was an amazing environment for widows to have a voice while also sharing concerns and getting wisdom on how to embrace their new role in life as a widow.
The first teaching session was a walk through the grief process from the widow's perspective. Many times, widows can feel passed over and alone once the funeral is over. Marlene helped explain these feelings along with how the local church can help. This was attended by widows and church leaders from all over America.
In the second teaching, Marlene walked through a road map of healing and finding purpose in the void of their spouse.
Through the entire weekend, Marlene was able to meet with pastors, senior adults, and church leaders from all over the country. There were many opportunities for mentoring, sharing the vision of Widow’s Link, and times of healing for several people who have lost special people in their lives. Weekends like this are only possible through the financial support of each of you who have given towards this ministry. Thank you from us at Widow’s Link as well from each of those widows around the country that this ministry impacts and helps find their purpose in their new life.
There were seniors and church leaders from all over the United States. Many speakers came and shared the heart of seniors ministry, reminding this great generation that God isn't done with them yet. Dr. George Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, spoke in a general session and shared God's Word.
